Sewer Rate Increase

At the August 28, 2018 Board of Trustees meeting, the Board voted to increase the quarterly sewer rate.  The Wastewater Treatment Plant was built in 1961. With some of the existing equipment and infrastructure being original to the building, we are approaching a time where many items will soon need to be repaired and/or replaced. This rate increase ensures that the township is able continue to operate the plant at its current capacity and react to any failures or improvements needed as they arise. It does not cover any major projects.

The new rate of $90.20 per quarter is effective August 1, 2018 and will appear on the November 2018 billing.

Board of Trustees Open House

The September 25th meeting of the Northfield Township Board of Trustees will be a more relaxed format to allow the public to provide their input and ask questions of the Board. We will have a quick overview of our government structure and the boards and commissions that serve us all. There will be a presentation on a mixed use (retail, housing, and public space) proposal for the North Village site and a synopsis of the current state and service commitments of our wastewater treatment plant. The public is invited to share their thoughts on these and other areas of interest.

If you are unable to attend the Open House, we would still love to hear from you.  Any concerns or ideas for our township can always be sent directly to our board members by email.

Non-Motorized Path Repairs

If you regularly use the Barker Road Non-Motorized Path, you may have noticed sections of the path that have shifted since the original installation, particularly near the bridges by the Elementary School.  We are in the process of getting those sections repaired.  A construction date is still to be determined, and we will notify you once the dates have been finalized.  During construction, sections of the concrete will need to be torn out and re-poured.  During that time, those sections will be roped off and will not be accessible for use until the concrete has fully cured.  We apologize in advance for any inconvenience.

November 6th Election Information

Our next election will be the General Election on Tuesday, November 6th.  Here is some important information regarding the election:

  • Last Day to Register:  The last day to register to vote in the November 6, 2018 election is Tuesday, October 9, 2018.  You can register to vote at the Township Clerk's office or at any Secretary of State (SOS) location.  Our office will be open until 4:30pm on October 9th for voter registrations.

  • Absent Voter (AV) Ballots: If you are unable to make it to the polls on Election Day, Absent Voter (AV) Ballots are available through the Clerk's office.  Here's how it works:

Step 1 - Completing an AV Ballot Application:  To receive an AV ballot, you must first submit an AV ballot application to the Clerk's Office.  You must complete a new AV application for every election, even if you are on the permanent AV list.  AV Applications can be obtained from the Clerk's office up until the Monday prior to the election.

Step 2 - Receiving Your AV Ballot:  Return your completed AV ballot application from Step 1 to the Clerk's office.  Your AV application can be dropped off at our office or mailed in.  Once your application is received and entered into our voter registration system, an AV Ballot will be mailed to you.

Step 3 - Casting Your Vote:  After you receive your AV ballot, you have until 8:00 p.m. on election day to complete the ballot and return it to the clerk's office.  Please do not take your AV Ballot to the precincts.  And remember, your AV ballot can only be counted if your signature is on the return envelope and it matches your signature on file.

The Township Office will be open on Saturday, November 3, 2018 from 10:00am-2:00pm to receive and process AV ballot applications.  Absent Voter Ballots can be issued through Monday, November 5th. If you request an AV Ballot on November 5th, you MUST vote in-house at the time you submit your application.
When mailing your ballot, please allow appropriate time for mail delivery.  Any ballots received after 8:00PM on November 6th WILL NOT BE COUNTED and Post Marks are NOT accepted.  Northfield Township is not responsible for mail delays.  There is a 24 hour Drop Box in the Office vestibule if you are unable to submit your ballot during normal business hours.
To be placed on the permanent absentee voter list, please provide the Clerk with a written request.  You will then automatically receive an AV ballot application for every election.

  • Poll Hours: Polls will open at 7:00am on Election Day and will remain open until 8:00pm.

  • Polling Locations:
         Precincts 1 & 3
