Northfield Community Park Ground Breaking Celebration!

You are invited to the Northfield Community Park Ground Breaking Celebration, on Friday, July 14 at 1:00pm!

This is an exciting time in Northfield Township as many in the community have been anticipating the construction of a community park for quite some time. We would like to commemorate the event with a ground breaking celebration! All are welcome to join us. Refreshments, give-aways and photo ops will be available.

Phase 1 construction for the paved parking lot and paved pathways at the Northfield Community Park (9725 Main St. next to the Whitmore Lake Post Office) is expected to commence after July 17th. This project is funded by a grant through the MDNR and by funds received through the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA).  Additional Paved Pathway construction funded by the Connecting Communities grant through Washtenaw County is expected to begin later this year or spring of next year.

Additionally, the Northfield Township and Parks & Recreation Board has recently submitted applications for the following grants:

  • Building Healthy Communities Grant.  If awarded, this grant would go toward the purchase of children's play and adult fitness equipment to be placed around the trail loop being built this summer, creating a fun and healthy destination for all members of the community.
  • Greater Metropolitan Assoc. of Realtors (GMAR) Placemaking Grant: If awarded, this grant would be used for the purchase and installation of shade structures at the park.
  • SPARK Grant:  If awarded, this grant would be used for expansion of the paved parking area and construction of a pavilion, restroom facilities and other amenities including a water refill station, grilling areas, trash receptacles, benches and dog waste stations.
